This requires a back story… 🏀🏀
Around age 12
With darkness setting in, I would continue to get shots up. I was inspired by those who I saw on TV [MJ, Nash, Iverson, Magic, Kerr]. Their dedication to the craft was alluring and I knew it took work. Despite my best efforts, even at that age, I knew I wasn’t going to make a career out of it. But I was learning something about myself.
My parents would call me in but I would just keep the rhythm going: dribble, juke, juke, eyes up, net.
To this day this passion is still burning. This week I joined up with a group of guys to play some full court. I hadn’t played in months and was anxious to get some reps in. I had low expectations as some may think I’m quite old to be playing. But the game hasn’t changed and I know how to be effective.
5 on 5 with three teams rotating. There was lots of rust out there so I was able to capitalize on some steals, blocks and assists and defensive stops. In the end, I took two L’s and I had one play where, in the moment, I questioned my intentions. It was tough but all in all, when I left there were no injuries and all smiles.
Work is still to be done. Myself included, I know we all grow each time we hit the hardwood. God please bless the court.
Until next time…
